Are you studying to be a MFT or LCSW?

Have you graduated and are working on your hours towards licensure?

When I began to pursue my MFT graduate degree, a wise person told me how one of the best ways to become a great therapist is to be in your own therapy.  I took the advice and began the process of my own therapy, which has been one of the most important steps in my development within the profession.

I believe strongly that the best therapists are those that take their own growth and development seriously and this is especially important for those currently pursuing their degree or obtaining internship hours.

As a graduate student, I appreciated that my therapist provided me with a discount rate for therapy and I now offer that as well for students and associates.

In addition to my own experience going through the internship process, I also have spent time helping MFT and Social Work students prepare for the state licensing exams through some past work with the Association for Advanced Training in the Behavioral Sciences.  This knowledge is also helpful for me in my individual work with MFT and Social Work Associate clients.

An added benefit of doing your own therapy while working on your intern hours is that you earn hours with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences for doing so.  The BBS recognizes the benefits of doing your own therapy and allows you to count these hours toward the amount you need for your license.

Best wishes as you continue on in the process of obtaining your MFT or Social Work license and I hope to have an opportunity to work with you as you continue this journey!
